I’ve made this one a few weeks ago actually. On the weekend where my life experienced a big twist in its episode (as my friend would say).

'Ophelia' by John Everett Millais

1851-1852

This painting is inspired by a scene from Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, wherein the character Ophelia sings while floating in a river just before she drowns. The actual scene is not seen onstage, but exists only in Gertrude’s description.

Ophelia is described to have fallen into the river from an overhanging tree while collecting flowers. The flowers present in the painting also reflect the Victorian interest in the “language of flowers”, according to which each flower carries a symbolic meaning. The red poppy floating amongst the other flowers in the water—not mentioned by Shakespeare’s description of the scene—represents sleep and death, possibly chosen by Millais to symbolise her impending demise.

Pejac (Spain) - Miniature Silhouettes and Optical Illusions

Spanish artist Pejac creates on his window miniature silhouettes in cut paper or acrylic paint. The window is then captured on camera, showing the riskiness and fragility of the art of tightrope. Over the past couple of years, Pejac has been getting recognition for his simple, clever public art and gallery work. Using brushes, pencils, acrylic paint and sand paper, he creates works that blend into their surroundings using existing elements and textures. Often socially and politically engaged, his works vary from small interventions to large mural-like pieces. (src. Hi-Fructose Magazine)
